Is there a best practice to extract bitcoin wallet hashes that works both with old an

Hi everyone,

I have an old Bitcoin wallet created with the original windows client back in 2011. And of course I forgot the non-trivial password.

I would like to try to crack the wallets password. But before investing significant funds in the appropriate hardware I would like to make sure that I properly understand hashcat. Therefore I created a new, empty wallet using Bitcoin Core v26 with a simple password ("t3est") that I could even decrypt on my Ryzen's integrated GPU. But trying to get the hash from this worthless wallet using bitcoin2john fails:

Using bitcoin2john on the actual (2011) wallet with bitcoins works. Some search on the net turned up information on bitcoin2john not being actively developed any further in a direction to solve that issue. Instead, btcrecovers extract scripts are recommended as a solution, but they return the hash in a different format from the one hashcat expects.

Of course I could try and find an older version of Bitcoin (Core) to create a test wallet that still works with bitcoin2john, but I hope there is a better way.

Can somebody recommend a way to extract hashcat compatible wallet hashes that works on old and new wallets?

Is there any way in Hashcat to replace the ?s with the  special characters I choose ?

like instead of 
-1  ?l?u?d?s

how can achieve this command
-1  ?l?u?d $#@?.-+*


When I choose ?s Hashcat will use all special characters while I need to use only 8  $#@?.-+*  with ?l?u?d

Hello, I am looking at the Scrypt algorithm from the Tarsnap rfc7914 document and the Scrypt CL code from Hashcat.
The CL code receives the Scrypt parameter N, r, and p values as a macro, and the default value is 16384, but it has been confirmed that it can be changed to other values such as 2048. However, what I am curious about is that the N value is calculated as the k value within the scrypt_smix_loop function of the CL code. I am curious what the N_pos value corresponding to the loop is and why it is fixed at 1024.
I would really appreciate your reply.

Help needed with identifying a hash for a cookie

I have a cookie that is using a hash that I can't figure out. Here is an example of the cookie:

n0MXXXL7ugXX84XX-n0MXXXZ9XXXMSXXX-username

So the first three letters of the first two segments are the same, then random characters of upper and lowercase letters and numbers. The last segment is what seems like a username (I changed it from the original).

According to https://www.tunnelsup.com/hash-analyzer/ it's Cisco ASA or PIX MD5 which is interesting because this is for a website. I've tried cracking with those hashes set but it doesn't work. Could be that the password is too strong, but most likely I'm messing something up. Would really appreciate if anyone has any ideas. Specifically, has anyone encountered these types of hashes for a website, and could someone please give me an example of how to crack them, as I think the username has to be part of the hash.

Estimared time difference 1hash vs 200 hash

Hi ,
Is it normal that when i am cracking in -a3 mode with 1 hash i got estimated time=2.5 days for 8 chars , but when i load about 200 hashes i got 3.5 days only for 7 chars ?

If its normal how can i reduce this time ? 
And anyone knows why it should be different?

Hi all,
i captured a handshake all good, used aircrack password revealed in 3sec via rockyou.txt. Great.

aircrack-ng -b 10:13:31:X:X:X Hash-01.cap -w rockyou.txt

now for hashcat.....

convert cap https://hashcat.net/cap2hashcat/

Tried the following commands..
hashcat -m 22000 hash.hc22000 rockyou.txt

hashcat -m 22000 hash.hc22000 rockyou.txt  -a 0

returns exhausted

Any Idea's what im doing wrong

HELP ME! specific password list generation??

So I usually use crunch to generate my password lists, cuz its easy and straight forward and it usually gets the task i need done, done..

However, after saving up enough hard drives with enough TB to generate the list i want (lol yeah its alot), i realize Im gonna need some masks probably to get it done. I am familliar with hashcat but not as much as I'd like to be, thus, im asking the community for help on this subject.... ???

I live in Canada, BC, and in my area we have an ISP provider called Shaw, and i've been taking down notes of the general  default passwords for the WPA2, and found out that they consist mostly of 12 characters, the first 4 being
2511 .

So that leaves me with 8 characters to fill in. Of which these 8 characters, they may consist of letters A - F and 0 - 9...

This is easy, ive already made lists like this, but it will take up 10 TB of hard drive space to make a full list. that is excessive. so to narrow it down, I want to add to my list, the ability to make it;

- no more than 2 of the same character repeats in a row, so never 3 of the same characters repeatedly.
- no more than 4 letters


since i am not familiar with masks, i am wondering if somebody could tell me how to acheive what i am trrying to do, either with crunch, or totally with hashcat. any help would be awesome, thanks !

i am a noob to hashcat and i need help.
im running windows 11 with a gtx4060 on a laptop.
every time i go to use hashcat it wont do anything, it says starting, waits about 5 seconds then goes back to typing.
all drivers are up to date, even redownloaded hashcat. still nothing
any help is greatly appreciated.

Hashcat stuck on Generating bitmap tables

I am new to hashcat and , i tried following hashcat command ,
  • hashcat.exe -m 5600 -a 3 hash.txt wordlist.txt ?a?a?a?a?a?a?a?a

But it stuck saying that

"Generated bitmap tables" . 

but if i run without brute force mode it will run. but getting exhausted.(no word getting matched). My PC doesn't have separate GPU. 16GB RAM, I5 8th Gen PC.

What would be the issue. Is that due to brute force mode load cannot be handled by CPU it self. Please give me a solution.

Hello guys,
so my problem is that I have pdf file with uknown pasword to me. I tried hashcat with pdf file with known to me password and everything worked. First I used:
Quote:perl pdf2john.pl file.pdf
Then I copied hash, passed it to the txt file and I used command:

Everything worked fine, but when I tried to use the same method on the file with uknown to me pasword I got such a message:

So I wrote a password program bask in the day using Visual Studios Simple3Des Class.  And I forgot the password that I used to encrypt...   This program class takes a "Salt" like parameter, and a "password" like parameter.  

So I have the hash of the password.  I have the salt, and I know the first 6 characters of the password. 

How can I use Hashcat to guess at the last 4-6 characters of the password I forgot.  ?  Thank You

I'm trying to change the logic of one of the modules, adding sha256 instead of other hashing. The problem is that the data for the hash exceeds the buffer limit of 64 bytes.

I think there should be approximately such logic:

Hashcat stucked

As the screenshot (see attachments) shows, I want to use hashcat on Windows, but hashcat has stucked on self-test for a long time. The benchmark (hashcat -b) didn't work too. Hashcat will also stuck on "Initialized device kernels and memory" if I use "--self-test-disable". I used The-Distribution-Which-Does-Not-Handle-OpenCL-Well (Kali) linux (Virtual machine) on VMware and hashcat worked properly. How can I use hashcat on Windows?
