Just posting benchmark for an Nvidia Grid K2 card. Performance is much less that what I was expecting, considering it has 3072 cuda cores. I am using vmware and PCI passthru mode, which might have something to do with it.

Dictionary attack
So I'm trying to attack one of my hashes, I know it's all lower case, a combination of two words between 10 and 11 letters meaning each word is 5 to 6 letters long. Followed by 3 numbers. Doing just a mask attack ?l?l?l?l?l?l?l?l?l?l?d?d?d will take 10 years! I there a way to use a dictionary of words combine two words and combine two of those words and do a ?d?d?d at the end? What would be the command for that. The only dictionary I have is the rockyou.txt

Burned out 12 V wires from PSU
I have a rig I have been running Hashcat on pretty much 24/724/7. It turned itself off yesterday and after looking at the components, I noticed the two yellow wires for the 24 pin connector had melted through the plastic sheath as well as melting the plastic pin connector. Looking up a diagram of the 24 pin connector shows these are the 12 V leads.
I am running two GTX 980s and a was using a Corsair 750 HX PSU. Was this just too much of a load for the PSU? I would think it wouldn't affect it like this since the cards should only pull 75 watts through the 24 pin connector via the slot, and get the majority of their power through PCI-E cables.
I have ordered a EVGA Supernova 1200 P2 PSU to replace the bad unit. Will I be good to go or will running the cards like this cause the same problem. I was considering running HC at -w 1 instead of -w3 to decrease the load, but this will slow it down. Is this a good idea to do?

Ubuntu Catalyst Hashcat Guide Notes
I recently picked up a couple of cheap Radeon 6950 cards and wanted to build a machine that could reliably run hashcat without some of the headaches I kept hitting on other distros.
Yes I realize these are not good cards, plus AMD, but this is really just more of an intellectual pursuit and a fun way to learn about drivers while increase my profanity creativity.
I'm a self admitted lurker and have never posted because I was always able to find my answer. I noticed on another thread that epixoip had mentioned that this guide (https://hashcat.net/wiki/doku.php?id=linux_server_howto) was outdated so I thought I would share the minor changes that got things squared away for me.
Please note I followed the instructions and ONLY the deviations are noted here.
(It's neat how far you can get when you read the instructions.)

Obtaining Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS
The link for14.04.2-server-amd64.iso does not work. Instead I obtained 14.04.3 from the official Ubuntu site and verified via their gpg keys and checksums.
Post-Installation Configuration
Note: No file named multiarch existed at /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg.d
Installing a Minimal X11 Environment
roxterm was not found. Instead I installed xterm via apt-get install xterm which worked fine once I got the x session up and running.
Auto-Login
The file lightdm.conf was not created so I created it manually at /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf and added the suggested entries.
Note: There was no $HOME/.config/openbox/autostart file and manually creating the autostart file did not set xhost at login.
Install AMD Catalyst
I tried a couple of versions of catalyst here and install options but kept having problems.
In the end what worked was a simple apt-get install fglrx followed with the suggested amdconfig --adapter=all --initial -f
Below are some of the results.

Yes I realize these are not good cards, plus AMD, but this is really just more of an intellectual pursuit and a fun way to learn about drivers while increase my profanity creativity.
I'm a self admitted lurker and have never posted because I was always able to find my answer. I noticed on another thread that epixoip had mentioned that this guide (https://hashcat.net/wiki/doku.php?id=linux_server_howto) was outdated so I thought I would share the minor changes that got things squared away for me.
Please note I followed the instructions and ONLY the deviations are noted here.

Obtaining Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS
The link for14.04.2-server-amd64.iso does not work. Instead I obtained 14.04.3 from the official Ubuntu site and verified via their gpg keys and checksums.
Post-Installation Configuration
Note: No file named multiarch existed at /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg.d
Installing a Minimal X11 Environment
roxterm was not found. Instead I installed xterm via apt-get install xterm which worked fine once I got the x session up and running.
Auto-Login
The file lightdm.conf was not created so I created it manually at /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf and added the suggested entries.
Note: There was no $HOME/.config/openbox/autostart file and manually creating the autostart file did not set xhost at login.
Install AMD Catalyst
I tried a couple of versions of catalyst here and install options but kept having problems.
In the end what worked was a simple apt-get install fglrx followed with the suggested amdconfig --adapter=all --initial -f

Been lurking around 2+ years and this is my first time I've been tempted in by something I havn't seen anywhere else...
In the sample hashes for hash 12200 used for eCryptFS I see the format should read:
$ecryptfs$0$1$7c95c46e82f364b3$60bba503f0a42d0c

Could someone please explain what I'm meant to be putting in the middle? In most other examples it will state 'hash' 'salt' etc. in the left hand column and I feel I'm really missing something here...

reference vs custom coolers
i will be buying a new graphics card soon, most likely a gtx 970, and have heard that the reference single fan design is far better for cracking that the custom multi fan design. From what i have heard ( pls correct if wrong) is that reference cards run hotter and louder than custom designs. The card will be primarily used for wpa/wpa2 cracking, as well as some hashes here and there. I am wondering if it is essential to get a certain type, and also if a certain brand of card is noticeably better than the others

If not, why? And wouldn't it be optional for the hashcat devs to code a program for cracking symmetric encryption algorithms like hashcat does with Hash functions?
