choose PKZIP 17225 or 17230 or both?

$

I created a zip file and can run hashcat mode with 17225 PKZIP (Mixed Multi-File) and finally successfully get the password,  but it only returns "No hashes loaded" with 17230 PKZIP (Mixed Multi-File Checksum-Only).

However, I can run hashcat with either 17225 or 17230 on an old zip file for which I have forgotten the password.

I don't know what makes such differences. My question is:  which hashcat mode should I choose? or both of them are OK?

How to increase the speed of 23800 mode?

$
0

There are two issues: one is the slow cracking speed, and the other is the slow loading speed of the dictionary.

Runtime Environment:
OS: windows 10 22H2
Mem:  128G
Disk: 2T SSD
GPU:  4090D * 4
CUDA version: 12.4
NVIDIA driver version: 551.78
hashcat version: v6.2.6

command line: hashcat.exe -m 23800 -w 4 -s 0 -a 0 fb9cd8fb-2e33-4128-a25b-3d347716b85e.hash BaseLetterSpecial.dict
* BaseLetterSpecific.dict is a dictionary text of approximately 1.8 billion lines (filesize 20GB) that I randomly generated.

Before running this command, a benchmark test was conducted, and the overall speed was around 1000H/s; This speed is too slow.
Code:
hashcat (v6.2.6) starting in benchmark mode

Benchmarking uses hand-optimized kernel code by default.
You can use it in your cracking session by setting the -O option.
Note: Using optimized kernel code limits the maximum supported password length.
To disable the optimized kernel code in benchmark mode, use the -w option.

In addition to the cracking speed, the dictionary loading speed is also quite slow. When executing the aforementioned command, you can view through the status that approximately 9 million (0.5%) dictionary records are loaded each time, and each loading process takes around 1 hour.

Mid-Range Hshcracking Rig - Relevance of PCIe Bandwidth,GDDR-Type, VRAM, Blower-Fan e

Hi there,

I'd like to build a mid-range Hashcracking Rack, about 2.000 bugs. Focus is a good price-performance ratio.
PS: I am aware that RTX 5000 is about to be released and the gpu prices are rather high right now as Nvidia stopped production of rtc 4.000 before the rtx 5.000 are available. However for tax reasons I have to buy it in this year.

1. I know it is recommended to use blower-style cards, but those are hard to find in the rtx 4 generation.
I think 2-3 GPUs in a 4U Rack should be fine without blower-style, aren't they?

So I consider 2 RTX 4070 GPU and a Ryzen 5600G such that there is an independent iGPU for the OS. I consider picking a board with 3 x16 slots for later Upgrade.

2. How relevant is the electrical PCIe bandwith for Hashcracking?
There are boards ~ 200 bugs that have either (in () is the electrical layout of the slots)
2x PCIe 4.0 x16 (1x x16, 1x x8)
and 1x PCIe 3.0 x16 (x4)

or
3x PCIe 4.0 x16 (1x x16, 1x x4, 1x x2),

and there are boards at ~ 500 bugs
3x PCIe 4.0 x16 (1x x16, 1x x8, 1x x4)
or 3x PCIe 4.0 x16 (1x x16, 2x x8),

If Hashcracking works fine with 3.0 x4 or even 4.0 x2, I'd definitely pick a 3 slot board. If x8 is required, I may rather pick a board with 2 slots only.

3. 4070 do have either GDDR6 or GDDR6X VRAM. For Gaming I read the X is about 3% faster, but is it relevant for Hashcracking, too?

4. I read that RAM should be twice the sum of VRAM for Hashcracking. According to this, 2x 2x12GB=48GB would be the recommendation, so I'd use 2x DDR-3200 32GB for dual Channel (128GB in 4 Slots is the Max of all the boards anyway). Or is overclocking of RAM worth the effort/additional costs for hashcracking?

That would be:
2x 4070: ~1100
Board: ~200
64 GB ECC-RAM ~ 150
5600G ~ 100
PSU 1000W 80+ Platinum: ~150 (maybe FSP VITA GM 1000W ATX 3.1)
Case: Chenbro RM41300G ~ 200 (because it has 8 PCIe slots)
= ~1900
What do you think? Anything I missed that may be an issue?

Thanks a lot, greatly appreciated.

How to add new mode to hashcat?

Hashcat crashing - Asahi Linux (Apple Silicon) VRAM Usage

$

I recently saw a post on Reddit that got me thinking:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AsahiLinux/comm...ahi_linux/

It appears as though on Asahi Linux (running on top of Apple Silicon) that hashcat tries to allocate all available VRAM which causes the system to crash. This looks to be because the Apple SoC uses unified memory and with hashcat asking for all of this it causes obvious issues as the system runs out of memory.

The OS/driver developers are working on a fix by setting a hard limit (85%) of memory that can be allocated as VRAM. I believe this is what MacOS currently does to solve this.

My question leads on from that. Is it possible to specify a total or percentage of VRAM that hashcat can use. I think this would have broader use for when you want to use the system during a long running hashcat process.

I have tested "Workload Profiles" (-w1) but this does not work and causes the same issue.

Seems to present the same as a previous issues with Intel iGPUs.

Hi guyz,

As you all know, Nvidia is going to announce RTX 5090 in the coming weeks.
What are your thoughts on hashcat performance on the new flagship ?

As RTX 3090 to RTX 4090 was like a bit more twice more performant (on classic hashes) can we expect the RTX 5090 to be like twice more performant as an RTX 4090 ?

Help for making my specific hashcat usecase work

Hi,

I am trying to get into my Bitcoin wallet and I know some things for certain, it will have the following structure

Word 1234 5060 !?.

I have split it up into 4 sections of the password.  It will definitely have the word at the beginning and I am certain of the order.  It will then have the 4 numbers, but I am not sure of their order.  Then it will have 4 different numbers, I am certain of their order.  Then it will use any combination of the !?. (i.e. it can be just ! ? . but could also be !? or ?. etc).

I have tried to make this work but I am struggling with the complexity of what I require.

I am using homebrew on terminal in case that makes any difference.

Thank you in advance!

Help with command to execute

Hello guys,
I need your help with an 15 years old rar file. I began to research and found hashcat and john the ripper. So far ok, I have an AMD Ryzen CPU with 24 Cores and 128 GB Ram, so I've created in HyperV a VM with 12 CPUs and 64GB. Now, I've got the hash from John the Ripper, which showed winrar3. The file from John was lst format, so I've copied it to notepad and saved as *.hash then I put the rar file and *.hash file in the same folder as hashcat.
Now, I have problem "organizing" all arguments which I want to use. From what I read in help this is is my selection:

- To significantly improve performance use -w 3
- 3 - ?l?d?u?! (lowercase, digits, uppercase and two selected special characters)
- [ Outfile Formats ] - 2 | plain - I want to view the password
- [ Attack Modes ] - 3 | Brute-force - noone remembers eve
- [ OpenCL Device Types ] -  1 | CPU +  2 | GPU  - Would it help to use both because the Videocard is very weak
- [ Workload Profiles ] - 3 | High |  96 ms  | High | Unresponsive  4 | Nightmare  | 480 ms  | Insane | Headless - as it is a VM for only this, it doesn't matter if it is nightmare

So, is it possible to do it and how to arrange options to execute the command?
Thanks in advance

Benchmark request for DDR5 CPUs

I'm interested in what kind of uplift DDR5 might bring to the CPU-only Hash-Mode 15700 (Ethereum Wallet, SCRYPT). I noticed RAM speed can affect hash-rate, so if possible please include those specs as well.

I happened to run benchmark before enabling the XMP profile and was surprised at how much it affected hash-rate.
The same exact hardware ( Ryzen 9 5900X I have paired with 32GB DDR4):

XMP Profile disable  (2133 MHz): 27 H/s
XMP Profile enabled (3600 MHz): 41 H/s

So that has me curious about DDR5 and hence this post. So anyone with a DDR5 and a few minutes, please share your benchmark.
Code:
> hashcat -b -m 15700 -D 1

Benchmark before enabling XMP Profile:

Code:
PS C:\hashcat-6.2.6> .\hashcat.exe -b -m 15700 -D 1
hashcat (v6.2.6) starting in benchmark mode

Benchmarking uses hand-optimized kernel code by default.
You can use it in your cracking session by setting the -O option.
Note: Using optimized kernel code limits the maximum supported password length.
To disable the optimized kernel code in benchmark mode, use the -w option.

Some general questions from a complete novice

I'm looking for a way to get in to a electronic wallet where the password is lost.

Spent some time searching around for a possible solution and now im here asking for advice.
as far as i can understand hashcat might be a possible way forward for me?

What do i need to go forward and try this for my self?
what parts of my machine has effect on the speed it works, is it GPU?

Do i have to know how many "letters/numbers/symbols" the password was made up of?
or can i set a range?

Do we know of any who has used hashcat and succesfully accesed their lost crypto wallets?

Thankfull for your help and cooperation

how to properly handle charsets in hybrid mode

$

Hi,

I want to use a charset 1 that combines digits and lowercase letters.

basically:
hashcat.exe -O -w3 -a6 -m1000 --session ..\NAME -o ..\NAME.txt --increment ..\uncracked.txt Wordlist.txt ?n?n?n
but: if i add
-1 ?l?n
I get "Syntax error in mask" (even without the space between 1 and?)
If I use
-1 ..\LN.hcchr
hashcat does not even complain if the file does not exist and candidates end with \n and other "interesting" elements - so there must be something completely wrong either with custom charsets in hybrid moder or with my usage of it

I found this one https://github.com/hashcat/hashcat/issues/1353 - but it seems to be only relevant if mask is read from a file.

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone else has a fix for this.
Originally I got the error message that the CUDA SDK drivers needed to be loaded.
Ive downloaded and installed the tool kit and I just cant seem to run hashcat successfully - see screenshot.

I have a RTX 4050 GPU with the latest drivers installed and using the latest hashcat build 6.2.6

Hashcat-6.2.6 GPU not working

Hi, I have a problem with the program starting the GPU. During tests, it only counts the CPU without the GPU. What should I do to make the GPU work? I tested older and newer drivers on Windows 10-11, but no changes. I have the example.hc22000 files, but after the commands it only counts the CPU. After the hashcat command, it displays GPU skipped, why? What command should I issue?
