Hi everyone,

I'm trying to crack one of my old wallet.dat passwords for a Bitcoin-fork network. The password (which was generated by Spideroak Encryptr) uses uppercase, lowercase, and all symbols, and is 12 characters long (which is standard for Encryptr). I have already extracted the password hash from the .dat file. Next, I am going to try a mask / brute force attack on it.

This is obviously going to be a challenge to crack, however, my glimmer of hope is that the characters never repeat. Here are some examples of auto-generated passwords similar to the one I am trying to crack:

8^KEZ8?.X/iM
rxMX8$cQ$4RZ

I have two questions:

Am I correct in thinking that the non-repeating nature of the chars will make these passwords easier to crack with a mask / brute force attack?
How would the mask attack script need to be written to specify this character set, but with non-repeating characters? I've examined some of the sample mask attacks but this one is a bit more complicated.
How might I go about assessing the time this crack will take? I have access to lots of GPU power if needed, but am currently experimenting on a rig running 3x NVDA 1070.

Until here no problem, but, I would like to know the impact of memory and processor, on this other tasks:
1) Wordlist - load, generate, sort, merge, etc;showbox.bio/ tutuapp.uno/ vidmate.vet/
2) Rules - with a0, a1, including the big ones;
3) Hybrid attack - (a6 / a7);
4) Hashcat-utils, maskprocessor, etc.
5) Rainbow Tables - load, generate, index, etc (ok, I know this forum do not have this focus, but, you guys have a lot of hardware expertise, if you can help, ok, if not, ok too null ); Here I will use RAID 6 to Load them;

I have (2) R9-290X cards in my system, which I feel does a great job. I am getting close to 400K H/s while cracking WPA with a dictionary file. I can run through a large dictionary file in about 5 minutes. If I add the best64 ruleset, it takes about 8.5 hrs. I hope I can phrase my questions properly, but here they are:

1. I noticed that if I have two hashes in the same file to crack, it doubles the crack time. That seems logical, but is there any way to optimize that?

2. If I wanted to use the best64 ruleset, but I didn't wan't to use calculated passwords that are more than 12 characters, is there a way to do that? My thinking is that would greatly reduce the possibilities, but still be very effective.

I have been building a rig for four weeks with zero success..

So this is word vomit, but I'm dumping all of my info here, hoping someone can pinpoint some red flags or issues to avoid.. I need any help I can get.

My first two weeks were screwing with AMD GPUs til I learned about PCIe Atomics - so I've since thrown those out of the equation. I'm now running with GTX 1070's and I have it limping along with the current setup:
Windows 10
AMD Driver 436.48
Hashcat 5.1.0

This will
- boot half the time
- perform at slow speeds (benchmarked WPA/2500 at about ~110kh/s... ~290kh/s is expected and ~360kh/s is achieved when only one card is running)
- randomly crash

On another note I completely hate Windows and would like this to work with some flavor of linux.

I have tried:
Ubuntu 14.04.6 server
Ubuntu 16.04 desktop
Ubuntu 18.04 desktop
Ubuntu 18.04 server
Parrot OS (forgot vers)

Each of the above, I've tried Nvidia drivers from apt packages, as well as installing directly from Nvidia. Specifically, I've tried to manually install 430.50 and 390.129 using the *.run installer and I've tried a flavor of drivers from apt packages.

I have two motherboards/build that I've swapped out throughout my trials:
Setup 1. Used Mining Rig:
- BioStar TB250-BTC Motherboard
- Intel Celeron Processor (unknown)
- 8GB RAM (unknown)

Setup 2. New Build:
- MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Plus Motherboard
- Intel Core i5-9400 2.9GHz
- 2x16GB Corsair DDR4 RAM

Either setup would use PCIe risers, which I have about 20x of and I've swapped out to ensure functionality.

Powered by:
1x 750W EVGA Gold (3x risers, 3x GPUs)
1x 1000W EVGA Gold (Mobo, SSD, 3x risers, 3x GPUs)

With the Ubuntu installs, I've had the following outcome:
- Ubuntu never boots once GPU is installed
- or, Hashcat benchmark's fine with 1 GPU, then OS won't book with 2+ GPUs
- Once I finally got all six working, then Hashcat would die halfway through benchmark, and state "GPU cannot be found"

I've also tried variants of Hashcat binaries zip'd, compiled my own, and installed from apt. So far the most successful has been compiling from source.

I'm unsure where to go from here. I feel like I'm going back in circles and ending up in the same spot. I must've reinstalled various OS's 20+ times over the past few weeks.

Are my 1070s too old for the current drivers?
Should I be using a specific version of Ubuntu?
Do you see any red flags in anything I'm doing?
Is there something I'm missing?

Every walk through I have read seems so very simple. Install OS, install drivers, install hashcat, go. Mine experience has never worked that easily.

I'm about to wipe everything and start again, I'll reply to this thread with steps/details to see if anyone can pinpoint what I'm doing wrong.

Seriously any info/tips/pointers would be appreciated.

It's 2x 32 Bytes encoded as base64 and separated by a $. Both halves look completely random; there is no skew towards low/high/even or a range of values.

This format is apparently used by CommerceTools. (This is a hash of the password abc.)

It's curious that both halves are the same length. I've already tried all obvious forms I could think of (all hashes which output 256 Bits, using the left or right half as a salt).

Sorry for such a simple (ignorant) question, but I can't seem to find the answer.

Does the client store and publish the PMKID, or just the AP? In other words, can I gather PMKIDs from a nearby client that has been previously connected to various APs?

When using -m 2500 for hash type WPA-EAPOL-PBKDF2 I am getting the error "OpenCL kernel self-test failed".

However, when using -m 16800 for hash type WPA-PMKID-PBKDF2 with a .16800 file I do not get any error.

As I now have a .hccapc file I need to use -m 2500 but this is not working. How do I fix this error?
