Does hashcat automatically remove duplicates?

I was using a wordlist which contained some duplicates, and I noticed when hashcat prints the # of passwords before starting, it included the # with the duplicates.

Does hashcat automatically remove duplicates before beginning the attack? Or does it trust the user to clean the list?
