I'm using hashcat cracking oracle s: type password, but my server is equipped with E7-4830 v3 and nvidia k20, the k20 is too slow to crack, I think the E7 would be much faster than it, but I can't find it in hashcat and switch to it. Then I downloaded a legacy version 0.49, but I can set my server's time to the year 2015 because of my privilege.(The os is Windows server 2016)
What should I do to make it faster? Thanks!

Anyway to benchmark with specific parameters?
I know that benchmark let's you select the algorithm but I was wondering if there was any way to do it with different parameters because the default benchmark mode for scrypt is (as far as I know) 2^10,1,1 whereas the minimum recommended is 2^14,8,1. With bcrypt it was simple to extrapolate as it just increases cputime with strength but with the memory differences I can' find a way to specify it w/o just putting a huge hash at it and trying to see how long it takes to guess it.
If that's the sole way to do it, does it list the guesses that were required?
P.S. I have an old laptop gpu but should be enough for some rough guesstimates(it's a GTX 485M 2GiB)

combining sustems
i know this is probably asked before but is their a easy/tutorial/simple way to combine more than one machine to use hashcat for example i have systems used for bitcoin mining so i have machines that have gpus in them but i cant/dont know how to use that extra power sitting here to crack a file. im trying to crack a complex wpa2 file and would like to use the other systems to aid/help crack the hccap file?

ok, so i made a local server on ubuntu running hashtopus, i logged in and went to agent deployer and downloaded the .exe file and opened it and it asked for Enter server.php URL: so i put my local ip server address in and it saved a xml file and closed and wont re open what am i doing wrong?

I was very fascinated by hashcat, so I want to try using it (with no experience in computer programming at all).
I am using MAC OS X 10.10.5 to run this.
So basically wanna try cracking the 7zip file that I made, but I encountered the Abort trap: 6 problem.
I tried searching this forum and it's seem that the problem is from Device?, but I did try filter-out one of them and still got no luck.
My command are
Am I doing something wrong? I was thinking that maybe my wordlists are too small, so I tried again with rockyou.txt and still got the same problem.

OpenCL installation on Linux
I'm on debian linux distro and I've installed the latest hashcat 3.40 but I'm having some problems...
any command I issue is giving me the following message:
"hashcat (v3.40) starting...
Mesa (Gallium) OpenCL platform detected!
It is known to cause errors which an unexperienced user could misinterpret as a bug in hashcat
You are STRONGLY encouraged to use the driver as listed in docs/readme.txt
You can use --opencl-platforms to manually deselect the platform and get rid of this error
You can use --force to override this but do not post error reports if you do so''
And I think it's related to the missing installation of openCL driver for my cpu (core i5 early 2010) but I'm not sure since I'm not an expert
If it's so, could you please tell me how to install OpenCL in order the get hashcat works?
P.S. I have nvidia gpu too, is it possible(or encouraged) to run hashcat using openCL side by side with nvidia driver?
or one driver's usage precludes the other one (and viceversa)??

Hello everybody.
Today i get this error
Googled it, found this topic https://hashcat.net/forum/thread-6193-po...l#pid33021 . I followed all the steps were recommended. Now i got the latest amdgpu driver for ubuntu from amd site, ocl-icd-libopencl1, opencl-headers, clinfo. Even in this case i get the same error. Also tried to use beta, got the same.
Any suggestions?

Installation and upgrading problems
Im very new to linux so please excuse my idiocy. I just downloaded kali and im trying to install runtime but it seems like there are no compatible versions for kali (i know my cpu isnt the issue its an i7 7700k). I also tried following some guide on manual installation but it did nothing. I was able to download the NVIDIA drivers for my GPU but i still cant get hashcat to work with my CPU.
Also a secondary question: how would i update to hashcat 3.40? i tried apt-get update and apt-get dist upgrade and when i tried to follow a guide for manual installation it would show some errors about double scripts or something when i tried running it (i dont remember exactly and i reinstalled linux since then to undo whatever random stuff i might have broken while attempting to get things working). Id be fine with sticking at 3.30 until 3.40 is added to the repositories but i cant find a way to convert cap files to hccap anymore ever since they switched to hccapx.

I am currently running the 5800 profile, but it is estimated at almost 2 years. The device policy state the password is 9 in length, 6 lower case and 3 numeric.
I am new to Hashcat and still learning. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

GPU not registering in Hashcat
The main problem is that the cards are registering with the OS (Ubuntu server 16.04), but not with Hashcat.
We noticed this issue last Friday when we were running tests. We had 4 cards successfully running, drivers are all good. We saw the output, we had 4 cards. Then we started noticing that the output had changed and we only saw three cards functioning. We decided to restart the box, when it came back up we ran "lspci | grep VGA" and we got 4 cards. However, when we run Hashcat -b(or any operation, -b is just a faster test), the operation hangs and we simply cannot kill the process no matter how elevated we are.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I am fully aware that these card just might be fried, but I just want to know what else can be done. I just find it weird that the OS knows there is a card and registers it correctly but Hashcat won't anymore.

Quad 1080Ti Setup

I'm in the process of assembling parts for a quad 1080Ti build. This is what I've gathered so far after catching up on the forums and on the interwebz:
- Motherboard: Asus X99E WS - USB 3.1 : It's a workstation motherboard which supports 16x16x16x16 PCiE 3.0. Apparently 8x8x8x8 should be enough, but just to be on the safe side...
- CPU: i7 5930k: has 40 lanes support. According to ASUS their motherboard can also do 4 GPU's with 28 lanes because it has some built in chips for that, but just to be on the safe side....
- 4 x1080Ti FE: because they got better cooling ... I guess it's also the only thing that will be available initially...
- 1200 W PSU: Or should I get 1500W?
- Big Tower EATX case (the board is CEB, but should fit on EATX). I'm thinking Corsair Obsidian 750D.
- M2 Samsung 960 Pro with 512GB. I can add some normal SSD for additional storage
Any recommendations on memory? I guess 32GB SSD4 is ok?
WRT software: I'll be running hashcat under Linux Mint. I don't foresee any issues , unless someone here thinks different?

Getting new GPU
So I am planning to get a new GPU unfortunately my budget is rather small so I have been thinking about 1060 6GB or RX 480 8GB I am not sure which one would be a better choice. Mostly I am running algorithms like salted MD5s and SHAs with dictionary attacks.
If I went for a 1060 I would most likely choose a nonreference one (thinking about Palit GeForce GTX 1060 Dual 6GB) or maybe a reference one would make a noticeable difference. I need to, because 1060 FE is like 50$ more expensive.

Performace changes

I have experienced some strange things in hashcat 3.40.
I tried to crack wpa2 hashes but my speed changed all the time when i checked the status of the process.
At the first minute it was stable 30 KH/s than it jumped to 75-141 KH/s which is insane and cant be true.
I'm using this code:
hashcat64 -m 2500 -w 3 filename.hccapx -a 3 ?u?u?u?u?u?u?u?u
and my rig is:
nvidia 940mx with the latest drivers and i3 6100u processor.
I know this build is not good for cracking but I was curious about the performance.
I also tested and older version Cudahashcat 2.1 and the performance was stable 34 Kh/s which is good
I used the same code which is:
cudahashcat64 -m 2500 -w 3 filename.hccap -a 3 ?u?u?u?u?u?u?u?u
One more thing what I dont understand is
At the progress line I see how many possibilities are there.
Progress.........: 191578112/626481193728 (0.03%)
It means there are 626481193728 different passwords and it already tried 191578112 right?
Now in cudahashcat it looks differnt for the same code:
Progress.......: 15826944/208827064576 (0.01%)
It says there are 208827064576 possibilities but it is nowhere near to that number what hashcat 3.40 gave me.
What am I doing wrong or what am I thinking wrong.
I wanted to try 8 character long, only uppercase letters from the English abc.
I've tested the same things on a different laptop which had an nvidia 950m and an i5 proc. The problems were the same.
